Overview

Alongside my work on collaborative collections, I’ve also designed inline graphics for Puma Basketball’s apparel line. These projects focused on commercial basketball graphics some featuring LaMelo Ball’s branding and likeness, and others created as general basketball-inspired tees for Puma’s global market.

    • Logo-based graphics using jersey-inspired fades and hexagon patterns.
    • A cartoon-style illustration of LaMelo performing his iconic between-the-legs pass.

    • Graphics leaned into bold typography, performance-inspired patterns, and Puma Basketball identity cues.
  • Inline Basketball Graphics (UK SMU, Q3 2023):
    • Designed a series of general basketball lifestyle Graphic inspired by Tarot Cards
    • illustration of Tarot Cards showcasing key skill in basketball.

Impact

The inline collections expanded Puma Basketball’s reach beyond signature athlete drops, giving fans accessible and stylish apparel options tied to the sport itself. By delivering both player-driven and general basketball graphics, the designs demonstrated my ability to connect with core hoop culture while appealing to a wider lifestyle audience and numerous age groups.

 PUMA BASKETBALL

DYLAN - GRAPHICS

FW 23 & 24

Role: Apparel Graphic Designer (Contract)
Category: Sportswear / Basketball Mascot Graphics

Overview

I developed a series of apparel graphics featuring Puma Basketball’s mascot, Dylan, exploring how a mascot could connect with both heritage-inspired and pop-culture-driven audiences. The project included two creative directions: a retro caricature style and a cereal-box parody, each tapping into different cultural trends shaping basketball lifestyle wear.

Creative Direction

  • Caricature Dylan — “Puma Pump Fake”
Inspired by the retro licensed basketball trend, Dylan was illustrated in bold, exaggerated caricatures reminiscent of vintage sports tees. The graphics incorporated dimensional typography and slogans like “Locally Known, Globally Respected” to anchor the mascot in a heritage-meets-streetwear aesthetic.
  • Cereal Dylan — Playful Pop Culture Mashup
Taking inspiration from childhood nostalgia and athletes’ favorite cereals, Dylan was reimagined as a cereal-box character. Bright, humorous graphics carried slogans like “Don’t Flinch” and “Excellence is a Mindset,” blending sport values with playful storytelling

Impact

By exploring two different creative lenses, the Dylan project showed how a brand mascot could become more than a logo a cultural character. The caricature approach tied Puma to retro basketball heritage, while the cereal parody expanded its lifestyle presence with humor and relatability. Together, they positioned Dylan as a mascot that could resonate across both hardcore hoop culture and everyday fashion consumers.

Key Highlights

  • Developed two creative directions: Caricature Dylan and Cereal Dylan.
  • Referenced retro sportswear, vintage caricature tees, and nostalgic cereal branding.
  • Created a mascot system flexible enough to span heritage, humor, and lifestyle storytelling.
